Our update posted on 25th February, as a record of the 2019 Green Fair bumpy journey. We are now going ahead with a smaller event (due to funding and support issues) in a new area of Valentines Park. We are excited about this new style event.
"Delighted to announce the 2019 Green Fair - Sunday 7 July in Valentines Park. We are currently setting up the organising committee following a well attended AGM on Sunday 24 February of 18 Redbridge folk.
We have been advised by Jas Athwal, Leader of the Council and Iain Varah, Head of Vision to use our £3000 Redbridge Arts Grant to support a green zone at the Fairlop Fair on 6th July rather than our own big event on 7th July!. This was in response to our latest email and ongoing complaint that Vision's community events such as Fairlop Fair and Wanstead Festival get a ring-fenced £10 K grant from the Council each year. As the only grassroots, volunteer-led community event of a similar scale, (bigger actually!), and the only significant environmental event in the Borough, we have to raise our own funds (time, energy and a big element of uncertainty) and then pay Vision £3K to hire Melbourne Field!!!
At our AGM on 24 February we took the vote: Shall we go ahead with the 2019 Green Fair as planned? Do we value our brand and event? *Yes! Should we disregard the suggestion from Leader of the Council and Head of Vision? Yes! Are we still interested in helping to run other smaller events and green zones on the non Green Fair years. Yes of course!
* We have 4 funding bids in and are hopeful that they will all be successful. We are going ahead with planning for the 2019 Redbridge Green Fair on Sunday 7th July. We will know for sure that the Fair is fully funded by the end of March and will confirm this in the Ilford Recorder, on our social media, and on our website at that point. In the meantime, if you shop at Tesco, please vote for the Green Fair and help us raise £4000!" (Note: we were not successful with the Culture Seeds grant. We were successful with the 2 Redbridge grants (that we had to go through the process of applying for taking up time and energy) but could not take both.
