On the Commonwealth Estate in Ilford, from 1st-21st March 2021
What community arts project can we do while we are still in Lockdown? We have found an answer! Art work on the pavement outside your home.
The Redbridge Green Fair, like so much else, could not take place in 2020, and it's difficult to make plans for 2021 at the moment.
So we thought, why not try out a really small scale community arts project that complies fully with the Lockdown measures! We've bought loads of coloured chunky chalks and hope they will be used by adults and children. Let's celebrate the arrival of Spring on 21st March! You can keep your patch of pavement bright and beautiful and lift the spirits of Passers By.
Most of our key volunteers live on the The Commonwealth Estate and we hope that the Commonwealth Estate pavements can colourfully welcome Spring after a hard winter for us all. We've teamed up with Little Rascals Playgroup, and the two free libraries - outside 46 Auckland Road and 68 Brisbane Road.
How will it all work?
This is a try it and see project. At the moment chalks will be given to parents from Little Rascals, and via the two libraries. They can also be 'ordered' by texting your address to 07957 534908 and we will find someone to drop them off to you.
It is important to comply with Lockdown procedures. This is for households/bubbles only. You must make sure there is plenty of space for people to pass by while you are chalking. It is your responsibility to make sure the unused chalks are taken back in (for re-use). It is of course obvious that pavements are dirty so do check the space first for any dangers and be sure to wash your hands thoroughly before and after.
Your art work will lift everyone's spirits! Take lots of photos and share them.
If we make changes to how we hand out the chalks or anything else, we will update it here. If we run out of chalks, we hope there will be ideas to get more funds. If you can help with distributing chalks, taking photos, etc, do get in touch or our Facebook page or Twitter.
