Yvvette Edwards grew up in Hackney and is of Montserratian-British origin.  Her debut novel, A Cupboard Full of Coats, was shortlisted for the Writers’ Guild Awards and the Commonwealth Prize, and Longlisted for the Man Booker Prize.

Rich with voices from East London and the West Indies, the story takes place over a single weekend after Jinx, a woman crippled by guilt, is visited by an old family friend, and the two join forces to unravel the tragedy that binds them.
‘An impressive debut’ Independent on Sunday

‘Gut-wrenching and gorgeously lyrical…’ Publishers Weekly

‘Rich in emotion but resolutely unsentimental, the story is unspooled with judgement and skill...’ Literary Review

A ‘deeply moving, wonderfully written first novel.’ The Times

‘Masterfully structured…Impressive in its psychological complexity…’ Literary License

Yvvette Edwards will be talking about and reading from her novel, and signing books at the Newham Bookshop stall at 4 pm.
